About Us

The Tanzania Association of Non-Governmental Organizations (TANGO) is the largest and longest standing national umbrella organization serving the Tanzanian NGO community. It was founded in 1988 by 22 NGOs.

TANGO’s CALL ON NGOs

As the government tightens its grip on the NGO sector and issues threats of deregistering NGOs which will be found wanting—it is important for NGOs from all walks of life to ensure that they have put their houses in order by internalizing and observing the NGO Code of Ethics.

TANGO is hereby calling upon associate district and regional NGO networks to undertake immediate steps of popularizing the Code of Ethics so as to ensure that all NGOs are aware of the contain of the NGO Code.
The exercise should be so set that it fishes out the areas in the Code on which CSOs are underperforming so that remedial measures can be undertaken to escape the wrath of the government.
It should also be noted that part of the ethical conduct of NGOs is the submission of  annual financial and narrative reports to the register of NGOs. This is against the background that information from the Register of NGOs indicate that there are very few organizations which have been submitting the above mentioned reports.
Please refer to the TANGO website for a copy of the Tanzania Code of Ethics for NGOs.
